Enfield No. 4 MK I

This famous British rifle was one of the best of WWII. This variant was produced in Canada - it was and still is a very sturdy, reliable and accurate gun. Per Wiki -

I generally can keep 10 shots in the black 7 inch circle at 100 yds...and focusing on that front sight seems to be getting harder.

My reloads use 180 grain round nose softpoints, 40 grains of IMR 4064 - not much kick since the gun is so solid....and accuracy is consistently good. 80% of my shots are in the 9 and 10 ring.

Iowa - GOP Selection Process Begins

As a gun owner, I want the next President to never waiver on my gun rights. But that does not mean I am willing to support someone who has no chance of defeating Obama. To do so would simply be a wasted effort.

So, the question for all of us concerned gun owners should be - who can be elected, who I can support as someone who will stand up for my gun rights....but even more importantly, can in an reverse the downward slide of this country...and that slide is across the board - the economy, our culture, our morals, our health etc.

Sorry to say that in a country so full of talent, there are so few people willing and able to rise to the occasion and take on Obama - who is aside from his novelty of being the first minority President - the worst President we have ever seen, at least in my life time.

So, my view - and it is just that, my personal view - is that only Romney can be elected - at this point - R. Santorum - well he shows promise but he is just not viewed as having enough gravitas yet - but I would be happy with him...if he could get the nomination. That will not happen, since the general public wants someone right of center,....but not way right of center. The key to this election is the moderates and disenchanted Democrats. Especially those of us (53 percent) who actually pay taxes.

So...Gun owners,.....support Romney unless, and until Romney shows a lack of support for our gun rights. Don't be influenced by his past stance on assault weapons...See him as a pragmatic supporter....who will not reverse our recent gains....but more importantly as the best alternative to ensure we get rid of the current curse on America - which is clearly what the current President is.

Air Pistol Practice Beeman P3

A little air pistol practice, and air rifle practice can make most shooters, better shooters.

All you need is 30 feet and a secure backstop, an air pistol/rifle pellet trap and the right equipment.

I am still using a Beeman P3 Pneumatic, single shot 17 Cal. air pistol.
It is very easy to use and very accurate.

Typical two hand unsupported groups for me group under one inch at 30 feet...and this is no Olympic style pistol....It is a reasonably priced air pistol....with a very light trigger...I estimate the trigger pull to be less than one pound.

It has a safety that must be disengaged manually each time the gun is cocked.

Cocking the gun requires some strength to close the pneumatic pump contained within the pistol's body.

I like pneumatic air guns because there are less moving parts, and you get consistent accuracy. It requires periodic minor maintenance, a little oil...and occasional cleaning.

The best part is that you can hone your shooting skills, stance, and trigger control, at low cost in the comfort of your own home.

Ruger Redhawk 44 Mag 4 Inch

What is powerful enough to handle a bear, yet small enough to pack in a back pack, and reliable enough to inspire confidence, and accurate enough to get the job done.

Well, I won't go overboard, but the Ruger Redhawk 44 magnum in 4 inch barrel, fits the bill precisely.

It is not light weight, but it is not a pain to carry, if you use a good holster.

It is weighty enough so that you can easily control it under recoil, and a Weaver stance helps, if you are doing multiple shots.

The Ruger trigger is about 2 lbs single action. Good for careful shots within 75 feet.

My experience with this model has impressed upon me the need to practice good trigger control.

As reflected in the picture....a two hand hold can do OK at 75 feet single action.

I have never tried this in the double action mode.

When hiking in the woods, in bear country, you really won't need to worry too much about what may be lurking beyond the next bush. But if something bad comes upon you, this gun will equal the odds.

Range Report - Ruger Vaquero 45 Colt

Cowboy shooting lovers, are real fans of the Ruger Vaquero. Mine is the 4 inch barrel version in 45 Colt. I use Trail Blaser powder, Laser Cast 250 gr bullets and after much experimentation, I filed down the front sight to be dead on at 25 yards with my pet reload....5.8 grains of trail blaser...using the Laser Cast Flat Nose hard cast 250 grain bullet. Trail Blaser powder meters well and fills most of the 45 Colt case which was designed around 1873 for black powder. I love the blue smoke it produces and the smell is OK...compared to other gun powder smoke.

The Ruger Vaquero is a fine, moderately priced domestically produced Cowboy gun. As my results shown on the picture reflect....using a two hand hold standing at 25 yards, most of my rounds are in the black. Very good results for a gun with a simple front post and receiver groove for taking aim.

If you ever wanted to know, in case you didn't know...a six gun...is single action only. You cock the hammer and gently touch the trigger. Around one pound of pressure or less on the trigger will cause the hammer to fall. There is no manual safety...but shooting these guns are pure fun.

The 45 Colt has very manageable recoil when using a two hand hold so with some patience and after doing some sight adjustments (filing the front sight down) you can be happy with the results, once you come up with a load that the gun likes.

Range Report SW 625 45 Auto

For those of you who have wondered how well the 45ACP can do out of a revolver, the SW 625 is the ideal platform to find out.

I have fired 45 ACP and 45 Auto Rim out of this gun, but I prefer to use the 45 Auto Rim...since I can dispense with using moon clips and more easily and naturally load the 45 Auto Rim into the cylinder.

The 45 Auto Rim is the same as the 45 ACP except for the fact that is has a rim to enable head spacing in the standard revolver cylinder.

This particular gun is the more upscale JM variant Jerry Miculek, renowned pistolero helped design this S&W, ...it carries a bead front sight, fully adjustable rear sight, wood grips, grooved trigger, 4 inch barrel and matte stainless steel throughout.

Using a two hand Weaver stance at 25 yards and firing 12 rounds into each bullseye target you can see that the results are very respectable....firing single action.

This is a quality firearm from S&W and is relatively expensive....but considering the value....in terms of reliability, quality, and accuracy...I think it is worth it.

Target Shooting on Public Land Safe for the Time Being

Well, political reality has reared its ugly head at the White House...as Interior Dept. announces that it won't proceed with regulations to reduce target shooters access to public land. Another minor victory for the Second Amendment, as Obama knows this is not the time to pick a fight with gun owners.

His fight will begin....if he gets elected...or so he is telling his anti-gun allies. Just wait until my second term.

The chances of a second term may seem slim at the moment, but that depends on how smart the GOP plays taking on a leadership message that resonates with independents.

Just wish I had easy access to wide open spaces that some of you have....would love to try 1000 yrd shots.

Sweedish Mauser Time

Range day using a 1918 Sweedish Mauser. They just don't make guns like they used to...Sweedish quality....brings great accuracy combined with the wonderful 6.5 Sweedish cartridge. Using Rem 130 grain bullets and IMR 4064 powder....37 grains....I get consistantly great results at 100 yards from a rest position.

If you can find one of these buy it. Around 7 years ago, I paid around $190.

Results below are with the stock open sights.

Carry Bill OK in the House

Well the ability to carry concealed in this country has taken a great forward step with the passage in the House of the legislation to require all states to recognize and accept within limits the carry permits issued by other states.

The Bill will go on to the Senate....some day....perhaps...and become part of the election campaign cycle. Likley...Obama ....will not support it....but....you never know....Dems...are against this liberalization...of a right that most of them feel is repugnant....that this the Second Amendment right to protect oneself with a firearm.

Given the elections...even the Dems in the Senate might go along....and if so....would Obama veto this?

hk usp 40 Compact

In the world of semi handguns HK stands out as having a uniform stellar reputation for quality and accuracy. Along with that goes price. The HK USP 40 Compact is almost twice the price of its closest rival the Glock 23.

For those who desire a German engineered and manufactured weapon that will stand out in the crowd...the answer may be yes.

I took an HK USP 40 Compact out for a test drive today at 25 yards, Standing two hand hold...using Remington UMC SW 40 180 grain bullets. I noted that this gun did extremely well with this round, as compared to stock Winchester 185 grain ammo.

The HK has features the Glock doesn't...Like a safety and a decocker. It is about the same size and weight...and overall, after shooting the Glock 23 for many years I would have to say that the accuracy of the HK is superior to the Glock.

Is the difference worth the increased price?

That depends on your viewpoint. Both are very reliable. Both are accurate enough for any defensive situation. The Glock is easy to maintain....and replacement parts are very available. The HK has a good market support network.

I would say, if you desire a very accurate defensive pistol that will deliver when you need it to...buy the HK....but you certainly can be happy with a Glock 23, SW M&P, Springfield XD40 etc.

Right to Carry in all States

House Republicans are preparing to take up legislation next week that would make it easier for people to carry a concealed weapon as they travel from state to state.

Well maybe soon we will see support in both the House and the Senate to get this enacted.

It is about time.

Only liberal Wuss Democrats from Chicago and NYC and San Francisco would object to this one.
And of course all those other anti gun folks who want the world to be what it is not....safe for them...where everyone loves everyone....Well...their Nirvana will never come.

Sadly, good people are murdered every day - by animals who have no soul.

Most of us understand good vs evil. Most of us are willing to defend our families and ourselves. Most of us trust ourselves to deal with life and death decisions if they come.

For those pure Wusses out there who fear others and themselves...well I pity you. You who don't trust anyone other than the Police to protect you. You who would deny me the chance to protect those I love.

Well...look in the mirror if your one of those types....then repeat after me.....I am a hapless, hapless Wuss. Every day I live in fear....and becuase I do....it is not right that others don't.

Now if that perspective is you...it is not too late. You can go to your local range...and get some lessons in using a firearm. You can learn how to be self reliant. You can learn to trust yourself.

Or you can remain as you are....a loser.

We who carry concealed....wish you the best....but don't look for me to protect you and yours. That is your responsibility, not mine, and not the state....while cops may try to help you....in the end you are responsible for your own well being and that of your family.

It just may turn out that when this legislation finally passes....you will be safer...because we are out there armed....and are mere presence.....is a deterrent....well sometimes.

Herman Cain's Nine Lives ?

Ruger 10/22 Rebuild

Here is a short report on my Ruger 10/22 rebuild.

This gun was stock until recently...purchased for me when I was 16 years old.

Added the stock, Adams and Bennett barrel, new extractor spring, new hammer spring.
The trigger is about 3 lbs...the sear was honed decades ago and not touched since.

I have been experimenting with Wolf Target ammo. So far the results are very good...except for a tendency for misfires. Not sure if this is just the lot I bought...and this seems to be only a problems on this gun...not a problem with my CZ 453...so I think the new Ruger firing pin I put in is just a tad short of what I need for consistent ignition for this Wolf ammo.

At 50 yds I am happy with these results with a number of 5 shot groups under half an inch.

Herman Cain on Trial

The following is a comment I submitted to Politico today. They have not always allowed my comments to be posted...seems I touch a raw nerve with them every now and then.

Here is the post.

It is not unfair to raise reasonable questions regarding the personal conduct of someone who wants to be the President of the USA.

But, what we have here is an allegation and a private resolution and no proof that anything happened.

So...Politico took a political biased cheap shot in airing part of a story and not first finding out if the allegations were ever substantiated.

The mere fact that females are paid off....does not mean anything.

I once worked for the US Gov't. We paid an employee $50,000 in taxpayer money to retire early and drop allegations of sexual bias. The allegations were unfounded. But lawyers decided defending the manager involved would cost more than just paying this malcontent loser to go away.

Shamefully, this is what passes for the way we do business in this country.

We waste public and private money because there is no negative consequence to making a false accusation.

So...until it is proved that Cain did something wrong....real journalism would warrant objective reporting ...and it looks like Politico is just what it appears to be...a left leaning political rag...that would rather score cheap points with the left...than do serious journalism.

Where was Politico when reports of Obama consorting with former terrorists arose. How about Obama's reported indulging in cocaine.

How about his relationship with an American hating preacher for 20 years?

Well Politico...you are on trial too.

You will be held to a new standard of journalism...by the rest of us who are tired of liberals being allowed to get away with anything as far as the media is concerned.

Range Report - CZ 453

Had a chance to go to the range with the CZ 453 Varmint again today. Temp was around 50 degrees, wind gusts of 3-5 mph. Results using Wolf target 22lr at 50 yards were good. The set trigger was pretty solid after the adjustments I made...and the regular trigger pull was reduced to about 3 lbs.

I shot 100 rounds using the set trigger about half the time. Notice still that a few times the set trigger would not let off....seems like applying any slight pressure before the squeeze causes the set trigger to not engage. After some experience with the set trigger....I would generally favor just using the regular trigger with its now reduced pull weight.

The best five shot group as per below was .41 of an inch. The next best group was .5 inch. This is after shooting around 20 five shot groups from a bench rest position.

Note bad for a slightly windy day.

Big O Continues to Be At Odds with Himself

Politico reports today how Obama keeps looking to show he supports Wall St...while still bashing them at every turn....and they wonder why?

Here is why.

This is not just ineptness. This is what happens when the true core of Democratic and leftist ideology has to live within an administration that has some elements within it...that strives for political realism.

In the end the head (Obama's) rules the body politic.....and a shallow ideologue can't help from sending disjointed messages.

Is he Bi Polar?....maybe.

Is he stupid....Well it would seem he is politically stupid in his current position.

Why wasn't this pattern in evidence before the election? ...well he was never tested in combat...being only a former community activist pandering to a passive, dependent audience.

So...what is the solution.

There seems to be none...for Obama can't become what he is not.

He is not a leader, he is not an administrator...he is just a former eloquent mouthpiece for a fictional America....a construct of ideology...purely fabricated to pull the wool of voters...which he did well.

Essentially, a false soul...going through life dishonestly at every turn.

Now...Politico is beginning to honestly report on the reality of this President.

Another Debate - More Clarity

From last nights debate performance, any voter who wants 'real change' in Washington - that is - to replace the current occupant of the White House,....would be happy with most of the GOP contenders....if was simply a choice of one of them vs Obama.

But, any intelligent voter....who wants a different and hopefully better President....has to consider....who best represents their values, goals, hopes and who can win.

So...far....it looks like Romney can stand solidly up against his competition. Sure he is no ideologue on pure conservative issues....but he his not appearing 'weak kneed' either.

The election will be won by winning the middle - the independents - and those disenchanted former Obama supporters....who are tired of following a Democratic 'lemming' strategy of diving over the cliff with more failed policies, and appeals to a more divided America.

Romney can unite the right and the center. Obama can only divide us.

The rest of the GOP hopefuls will help Romney gain skills and more recognition...as one who appears Presidential. The silly efforts to attack each other last night so orchestrated by CNN is not what voters want to see. But I can't blame CNN...they of course are not out to make GOP hopefuls look good....but yesterday...despite what some say.....it was Obama who got the worst of the debate. As we go forward in this process it will be more and more Obama painted by all GOP hopefuls as the only real goal that matters....and that is to stop the erosion of this economy and this American society under the current President - who clearly has no interest in doing anything that is best for all of us - if in doing so it reduces his chances for re-election.

CZ 453 Varmint

Recently, I picked up a CZ 453 Varmint.

It is a fine example of a high quality bolt action rim-fire.
This one is in 22lr with a heavy 20 inch barrel, set trigger, 5 rnd mag, walnut stock.
The bolt locks up securely almost like a center fire rifle. Twin extractors ensure positive ejection.

This model requires 11mm scope rings to attached to the integral scope base on the receiver. I put a Lueopold 9x variable on mine, and set off to the range with Wolf 22lr target ammo...shooting from a bench at 50 yards.

Results were great. Most 5 shot groups were under a half inch. Some four shot groups hit .30 -40 inch. The set trigger was acting a little quirky. I would set it by pushing forward....and then sometimes the trigger would engage and release the sear and sometimes it wouldn't. Shooting without the set trigger engaged was no surprise. No creep, with around 3-4 lb let off.

Per Rimfirecentral.com, on the CZ board seems like the set trigger can be an issue if the adjustments on the trigger are not just right. The trigger is fully adjustable....and I played with the pull a bit....and the set trigger adjustment. My next range test will see how well it improves the overall trigger and the set trigger.

You can buy one of these for around $500 if you shop around. It weighs around 6 lbs. It is more ideal for small game hunting than just target shooting. But it can do fine just on tin cans and paper targets if that is your preference. Wolf Target ammo has preformed well for me. But I really didn't try any other brand....but I am inclined to keep using Wolf when I am doing target shooting.

The Great Divider

So, Obama continues another bus tour...this time to paint all opposition as supporters of the 1 percent of Americans at the top of the economic ladder to the detriment of the rest of us. As if his policies have benefited the rest of us. He fails to tell, and the media fails to discuss...how he supported the bail out of Wall Street, Big Banks, Big Motors etc.

This Obama....prostitutes himself continuously...and will proceed to lower the office of the Presidency by playing divide and conquer.

Obama has no other weapons - the great divider - history will call him -

He promised so much...delivered so little....destroyed so effectively....and will leave a lasting legacy of distrust.

A man so small that few who witnessed the 2008 campaign would ever predict he would fall so low....and diminish the term leadership....to this extreme.

Sadly, too much of America supports this masochistic perspective - one that says....If I can't have the best that America offers...than those who do must be inherently evil, racist, malicious etc....but of course these deluded followers of the left, of socialism, of anti-capitalism....have nothing positive to offer. They would poison the well of a cohesive society....one where all boats could be lifted by prosperity...transforming the promise of hope and opportunity into a dark mantra that paints all opposition as without merit.

Lets Drink Some Beer

Yesterday, the Commander in Chief, drank beer with some unemployed guys...as a feigned show of solidarity with their pain.

Such staged attempts at empathy are too laughable to even comment...but I will offer the following comment.

Pathetic attempt to appear as one of us.
He is an alien....if not physically from another planet, then in all other respects....he is alien to American values and culture. He is a child of the left, forever lost in his own narcissism, blind to the reality of what the average American feels and thinks, guided only by his fellow alien advisers who have no clue.
Do us all a favor, resign now, or at least tell us that your not running for a second term.

Obama is an aberration in American political experience. The perfect storm was created that allowed this incompetent fool to get elected. We can only hope it is the last time Americans fall prey to their own willingness to suspend critical thinking. Of course we could not expect better from the media....but lets us pray that we average Americans have learned a painful lesson...which is ....leadership is more than skin deep.

Uberti Winchester 1873 Range Results

Got a chance to take a Uberti 1873 Winchester to the range today and try out some experimental loads. Results were achieved at 75 yds and 100 yds from a bench rest position using the open buckhorn sights, while I am still awaiting delivery of a Pederosoli Tang sight.

At 75 yds a 10 rnd group measured around 4.25 inches. At 100 yds things opened up to 6.5 inches for 13 rnds, and I had two fliers out of the black.

Results were obtained using Hornady 225 gr FTX bullets, 8.7 gr of Unique, Starline Brass, Winchester Large Rifle primers. 5 shots at the yd target included 8.0 gr of Unique...a softer load with all shots hitting in the black.

Here is a look at the targets. This is the 75 yd target.

This is the 100 yd target.
So, am I satisfied with the load and the rifle?

Well, yes.

Using the stock open sights is a challenge. The trigger is still a bit heavy at around 7 lbs...but it is getting smoother and is crisp in let off.

I suspect the load can be altered a bit...I will try 8.4 gr of Unique for the next round of testing.

Final conclusions on the best load will await the installation of the tang sight. But overall, what an enjoyable gun to shoot.

Why Not Perry for President

Support for gun control is not Perry's problem. He is the most pro-gun of the current crop of GOP candidates. His support for benefits for illegals is his poison pill.

Perry can't defend the indefensible - not while he is seeking broad support from fiscal and social conservatives and even the middle of the road independent.

No one argues that an educated illegal is better than one on welfare.

Conservatives would argue and I agree, that any illegal should get no government benefits. They should be deported...unless they sign up for a path to citizenship that includes paying fines, paying taxes, learning English etc. etc.

Independents won't go for giving illegals in state tuition rates.

They should be barred from attending state supported colleges period.

The simple issue is - providing any benefits simply attracts more illegals, who then compete for a shortage of good jobs.

The pathway to legal immigration is open to those who follow it.

Perry will not get the nomination until and unless he disavows this law - and agrees to work toward preventing such state laws from being enacted.

Romney, Cain, or even Christie are starting to look like a much better alternative.

Chris Christie for President?

Why would anyone who cares about their Second Amendment rights want Chris Christi to be President. He is not a great supporter of Gun Rights. He takes the position that what is on the books is OK, no new laws are needed. But gun owners know there are still many over bearing laws in effect, and NJ is one state which stands out.

The only reason to advocate for Christie -is fear that all the other GOP potential candidates could not win against Obama.

That fear is an unrealistic one. The other day, Christie spoke of an American exceptional-ism, that doesn't dictate to the world....he sounded much like Obama. He spoke of seeking compromise - but compromise of core principles lead to the mess we are in.

So, in my view - he is not a good choice - for the sake of the Second Amendment and for America and I hope he stays out of the race.

Our Next President

For the moment, as we are a little early in the election campaign for President, not too much is being focused upon the Second Amendment Position of the GOP front runners.

Gun owners already know that nothing "bad" has happened under Obama - yet most know that he would reduce gun ownership by hook or crook if he could get away with it. The latest ATF fiasco on the Mexican boarder - shows the real nature of this administration. It was designed to set up a scenario where the DOJ could prove that Mexican drug crime was fueled by American guns. It failed in that, at great cost in human life. When will those accountable for this injustice be brought to justice. Don't expect anything will happen until after this Administration is kicked out of office.

So what about Romney and Perry on the Second Amendment.

We know Romney has waffled on the Second Amendment. Just do a Google search on Mitt Romney Second Amendment - and the record will be evident. In general he is supportive. But he is not a promoter of Assault weapons - or increased registration - but as some believe, his RINO nature - compels him to stay on the "right" side of the Second Amendment - we can assume....that he would be a "safe" canidate - meaning he would not advocate for more gun control while running for President.

Perry is more likley to never waiver on Second Amendment issues - yet he is so far ineffective in explaining why Illegal Aliens get educational preferences in Texas.

From the narrow perspective of just gun rights, Perry would be the better candidate, but so far - and it is early he has not demonstrated a command of specifics that clearly explain a firm grasp on all the key issues of the day - nor an ability to garner the Independent vote.

So the current front GOP prosepective candidates have some real weaknesses. These are minor compared to Obama.....but still the question will continue to resonate in likley voters seeking a change - who is more electable - and who in general will better unite us.

So far my personal view is that Perry looks too much like Bush. Mitt Romney needs to show that he is done waffling on issues. If Perry can get beyond his immigration history - get more specific, and less defensive - he could be the one.

He has to appeal to the Independents....and so far the fear campaign against his desire to reform Social Security has taken a toll.

He has time to overcome these weaknesses.

It is going to be interesting - Either way - the likley GOP candidate will be far superior to the ineffective President we now have.

Hopefully Americans have learned a lesson.

East German Makarov

It has been a while since I grabbed my East German Makarov in 9x18 Makarov and went out to the range to put it through its paces at 25 yards on a Bullseye target.

These are still available but the price may now be a bit above the $325 I paid for it some years ago.

This one was in excellent condition, and using ammo from Russia (Barnaul) as you can see from the picture it did very well using a two hand hold, standing unsupported...and considering the tiny front sight on this gun.

What can I say except that both the gun and the shooter excelled.

1873 Winchester

Recently went to the range with a new Uberti 1873 Winchester in 45 Long Colt.
After working up some loads, it appears a keeper may be 8 grains of Unique with a Hornady FTX 225 Grain on top. Some of my groups at 75 yards were around 1 inch. The gun is a beauty and I will soon add a tang sight and get a trigger job to reduce the current pull down to about 4 lbs.

More range reports to follow, but for now, here is watch she looks like.

Gunning On

Well, I recently upgrade my 45 year old ruger 10/22 with a new barrel and new stock, new extractor, hammer spring, and firing pin. Now at 50 yards, using Wolf target ammo I am getting .5 inch groups for 5 shots and some .3 inch groups for 3 shots.

I invested around $225 in the upgrades and it has put new life in the old warrior - the gun - not me.

On another more political note I observed in this mornings Politico how those in other countries continue to adore the annoited one...Mr. Oh Bama.

Here is my Politico comment that I posted.

It is so Politico of Politico to highlight the popularity outside the US of the first black US President who also has the distinction of being the first anti American President, the first openly socialist leaning President, the first anti-Israel President, just to name a few of his most significant firsts.

It will be a great counter point in the run up to the next election that as his domestic agenda and popularity diminish, those overseas affections for the downtrodden, picked upon, diminished Oh Bama, will rise - and once again the media elites, like Politco will decry the coming demise of American acceptance abroad.

Funny thing though, most of us average non elite Amercians who have borne the brunt of this reign of elitism won't give a damn about the overseas perception but will breath a deep sigh of relief when the burden of Obama is gone.

Yahoo Tell Second Amendment to Drop Dead

For the last month or so, I have been advertising my web site for gun sales using Google and Yahoo.

These technological giants have editorial policies that are more in line with the Washington Post and the New York Times and therefore they take liberty to deny the right to advertise for certain products and services.

No one would argue with their right to limit advertisements for things like sex, or illicit drugs etc. But they also have policies that deny the right to advertise if your selling guns.

Somehow, these liberal, elitist, technocrats, feel the word gun.....is a dirty word. A gun should not be sold....they should help sell guns etc. Somehow they feel that a product that supports your right to protect yourself, your family or engage in a sport like hunting, target shooting etc...is beneath their elitist standards....not worthy of their support and somehow advertising dollars earned from gun ads would be like blood money.

So after one month of having my ad run in Yahoo for my site Cutler Sport Services , Yahoo decided to stop my add. They just pulled the plug.

They didn't care that I am an FFL holder, that I transfer weapons only to other FFL holders. No distinction between a casual seller of used guns versus a business selling guns or shooting supplies. Of course not. Subtle distinctions are used by liberals only when it promotes advancing rights that they support. Otherwise there is no gradations of color. Its all black and white. Guns = Bad. If I was selling Breast Enlargement that would = Good.

No big deal - their running my add cost be around $30 and generated zip.

But the principle is what matters here. So far, Google is not acting so anal.

So, dear supporters of the Second Amendment please take note.

If you use Yahoo you are supporting an Anti-Gun anti-Second Amendment company. So don't use them. Truth is Yahoo doesn't have the market share anyway - and who knows maybe tom morrow my Google add will also be killed.

But for now - get the word out: Yahoo views consumer need for firearm information in the same way it views pornography. I suspect Yahoo would conclude that not all sex advertising is bad - but any gun ads are forbidden. Lets send a message to Yahoo - drop your subscription to any of their services today - just one small step you can take to support your Second Amendment rights.

I find it sad, but predictable, that so many religious interest groups whose members have historically been oppressed, and even murdered for their religious beliefs, now find it appropriate to condemn those of us who cherish our Right to Keep and Bear Arms, as being less in tune with what the Devine desires of us.

The last time I read the Old Testament, God did not advocate surrender of one's life to a thief, rapist, killer, or a wild animal.

Perhaps it is simple the pacifists among us, and among them, who are outraged that the Supreme Court has affirmed your right to own a firearm.

Second Amendment Momentum

So, now liberals are saying the Supreme Court's decision affirming the Second Amendment is really just the opening round in a series of new court cases which may ultimately negate the impact of the Heller decision.

They now argue that the ruling should narrowly be applied to just the District of Columbia, which is not a State. They are hopeful that another Supreme court case down the road will hold that states can assert their interests over that of the individual.

Liberals will never stop...trying to get the government to permit a broad spectrum of behavior - except for behavior that empowers the individual to protect themselves with a weapon.

They still can only see weapons as a force for evil - this viewpoint however engraved in their minds, will not be altered by common sense or countless tales of individuals protecting their lives. To the liberal - a gun is un-civilized - something to loath. Those that are attracted to weapons are small minded blue collar red necks - of the kind that Oh!Bama speaks of.

Now the NRA has started legal action based upon the recent Supreme Court ruling.

It may take years for this decision's ripple effects to be fully felt in places like Chicago, San Francisco and New York City. But the momentum is with those who savor liberty.

Now will the NRA attempt to get those poor citizens of the District of Columbia the ability to purchase a handgun in Maryland and Virginia. The Heller decision won't mean a thing until these folks can legally buy a gun outside of D.C. You can bet that it will be many months before D.C. allows any FFLs to be established within it's borders. Thousands of D.C. residents want to legally buy weapons today.

When will the ATF issue special regulations to allow FFL holders in Maryland and Virginia to sell handguns to the law abiding residents of D.C. ?

Your Right to Bear Arms is Upheld

Well it's no surprise to most 2nd Amendment advocates; The Supremes endorsed your right to keep and bear arms. I am disappointed that the margin of victory was slim. To win 5-4 just shows how the court is divided on ideological grounds.

The next President can stack the deck so that a later court decision can overturn this victory.

As for Oh!Bama. Mr. flip-flop now is trying to sound like this decision is welcome.

I hope and pray that you all are not so stupid.

This man will say and do anything. He is more of an opportunist then Bill Clinton ever was....and he is more dangerous.

The media is buzzing with the implications of this Supreme Court decision. It was highly anticipated- and it will bring the downfall of other extreme laws- but it will not cause the wholesale reversal of generic gun control measures.

Success and Challenges

Imagine what a Democratic Congress, with a Democrat in the White House will be able to do to move on their liberal agenda. 80 million American gun owners must awake. The danger is greater now than at any previous time in recent history. There is only one choice in this election - and not voting is not one of them.

National Parks May Allow Firearms

Those of you who have a favorite National Park in your area will benefit if current proposed Interior Dept. rules are implemented.

While it may confuse some to have to consider local state law, the concept of posting signs saying firearms allowed or no firearms allowed is a welcome change to the current 25 year old complete ban on carrying firearms in National Parks.

While it is statistically true that National Parks are safe, it would be safer if hikers like myself could carry our loaded handguns to guard against the potential for an attack by man or beast.

The fact that mountain lion attacks or robberies are rare is of no comfort to someone after they have been killed. Carrying a weapon is after all, an insurance policy that one hopes they will never have to employ.

This is a common sense rule change, which needs to have your support.

You have 60 days to tell the Interior Dept. what you think.

Poor Oh! Bama

The tide has begun to turn. The magical miracle that Oh! Bama thinks he is.....is dissolving amid the contradictions and disconnects that arise from his history and his mouth.

Now....finally, the liberal media is beginning to critically focus on issues of character and even perhaps weakness. Even the left leaning Washington Post has the intellectual honesty to allow some pundits to articulate what is wrong with Mr. Hope.

As far as Oh! Bama's attitude towards firearm ownership....it is increasingly clear that he is not even believed by Democrats. The recent Penn. primary results showed 60% of gun owners supported Hillary Clinton.

So what can we predict at this point? More and more it looks like a strategic disaster for Democrats. Only John McCain can rescue them by shooting himself in the foot. McCain is very capable at self inflicted wounds by disregarding his Republican base, while wooing Reagan Democrats and Independents. It's a balancing act that is treacherous. His recent attempt to silence the N. Carolina GOP's anti-Obama add - because it played up the Rev. Wright association shows a naivete about the political warfare ahead.

For the poor Democrats, we can foresee Hillary taking the fight to the convention floor. Why should she stop. What does she gain by caving in before Denver? When the Democrats nominate Obama they will seal their fate for November. He is clearly now viewed as the weaker national candidate....not that she is really much stronger. The Democrats have boxed themselves into a corner by letting their own left wing call the shots. McCain will hopefully skillfully play his cards by providing an alternative to the dis-affected Hillary supporters who can't help but remain so bitter - and 25% of them may well see McCain as a viable alternative.

Oh! Bama is dangerous. The future does not hold well for this ethereal candidate who exists on vaporous rhetoric with no real underpinning in experience or demonstrated leadership or character. America will not elect Oh! Bama. The Democrats don't offer any viable centrist choice - they miscalculated their moment with a sense of arrogance about the country's readiness to accept any new leadership....as long as it was not Republican. From Pelosi, to Reed to Dean to Clinton to Oh my God Oh! Bama....they show a consistent pattern of burying their head in the sand.

Supreme Court Hears Arguments in D.C. Gun Ban Case

Fairfax, Va.-Today, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in District of Columbia v. Heller, a case the Court has stated is "limited to the following question: Whether Washington, D.C.'s bans [on handguns, on having guns in operable condition in the home and on carrying guns within the home] violate the Second Amendment rights of individuals who are not affiliated with any state-regulated militia, but who wish to keep handguns and other firearms for private use in their homes."

The case came before the Supreme Court on appeal by the District of Columbia, after a panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit declared the city's gun bans unconstitutional. The panel's decision was upheld by the full Court of Appeals.

The Court of Appeals decision--consistent with the views of the Framers of the Bill of Rights, respected legal commentators of the 19^th century, the Supreme Court's ruling in U.S. v. Cruikshank (1876), numerous court decisions of the 19^th century, the Supreme Court's ruling in U.S. v. Miller (1939), the position of the U.S. Department of Justice, and the vast majority of Second Amendment scholars today-concluded that "the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. That right existed prior to the formation of the new government under the Constitution and was premised on the private use of arms for activities such as hunting and self-defense, the latter being understood as resistance to either private lawlessness or the depredations of a tyrannical government (or a threat from abroad)."

In today's argument, the Justices aggressively questioned advocates for all sides, including Walter Dellinger for the District, Solicitor General Paul Clement for the Department of Justice, and Alan Gura for the plaintiffs challenging D.C.'s law.

While it would be a mistake to predict the outcome of a case from questions at oral argument, some justices' questions clearly suggested where they stand-as when Chief Justice John Roberts, questioning the District's Dellinger, scoffed at the idea that a citizen awakened by an intruder in the middle of the night could "turn on the lamp . pick up [his] reading glasses," and disengage a trigger lock. Dellinger back-pedaled from D.C.'s longstanding position that its laws prohibit self-defense, claiming that D.C. actually supports citizens having functional firearms for defense.

Justices extensively questioned all three attorneys on the meaning and effect of the Second Amendment's "militia clause," with Dellinger taking the extreme position that unless a state "had attributes of [a state] militia contrary to a Federal law," the Second Amendment would have no effect as a restraint on legislation. Several justices seemed to disagree strongly with that view, with Justice Antonin Scalia noting that even if the militia clause describes the purpose of the Second Amendment, it's not unusual for a law to be written more broadly than necessary for its main purpose.

Justice Anthony Kennedy questioned the attorneys very actively, especially on the importance of self-defense in the Founding era. Justice Kennedy suggested that even the Supreme Court's 1939 Miller decision-which gun control advocates have often wrongly cited as protecting only a "collective" right-was "deficient" and may not have addressed the "interests that must have been foremost in the Framers' minds when they were concerned about guns being taken away from the people who needed them for their defense."

Plaintiffs' attorney Gura-in addition to responding to many hypothetical questions-noted that the Second Amendment was clearly derived from common law rights described by Blackstone and other 18th Century commentators. Although the militia clause "gives us some guide post as to how we look at the Second Amendment," Gura said, "it's not the exclusive purpose of the Second Amendment."

NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox (who both attended the arguments) commented, "Washington, D.C.'s ban on keeping handguns and functional firearms in the home for self-defense is unreasonable and unconstitutional under any standard. We remain hopeful that the Supreme Court will agree with the overwhelming majority of the American people, more than 300 members of Congress, 31 state attorneys general and the NRA that the Second Amendment protects the fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms, and that Washington, D.C.'s bans on handguns and functional firearms in the home for self-defense should be struck down."

Amicus briefs filed with the Supreme Court in support of the Court of Appeals' decision included those by the National Rifle Association and the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund; Vice-President Dick Cheney (in his capacity as President of the Senate) and Members of Congress; the state attorneys general; and noted Second Amendment scholars. When Will The Pacifist Die

There is a growing discussion in this country that threatens to drown out the insipid pacifism that permeates the upper and middle layers of the liberal establishment.

National Parks Firearm Vote Pending

Well Congress is now poised to vote on an ammendment to an important Interior Dept. bill which would legalize the carrying of loaded firearms in National Parks.

This amendment is strategically proposed to achieve what the Interior Dept. has thus far failed to voluntarily do, despite over half of Congress voicing support of the change.

It is a political opportunity to show Obama and Clinton for what they are. Will they support a common sense proposal to expand gun rights....or continue to pander to the leftist pacifists in their party?

Law abiding citizens who pass through National Park land, should not have to worry about being arrested. If they are in compliance with state and local law there is no good reason to prevent them from having weapons, loaded or unload in a National Park.

Frankly, I visit National Parks several times a year - and I am concerned about running into trouble in the woods. Yet, I have to make a decision not to carry, even though I have a permit to carry. It does not matter that the odds of running into a dangerous animal or person is remote.
What is the Interior Department's concern.....that I may illegally hunt on federal land? That I may get mad at a hiker and shoot them? The reality is....there is no issue here. Hunters, sportsman, hikers, nature lovers should be allowed to exercise the same freedoms they enjoy outside the parks when they are within the boundaries of a national park.

I doubt if the Dems will allow this amendment to come to a vote. They hate to be forced to make a stand that might offend their base, or jeopardize what ever weak support they currently have among sportsman, hunters and other gun owners.

We Can Have Safer Schools

In light of the Illinois campus shooting, we can see more evidence that schools that allowed concealed carry are indeed safer schools.

We may yet learn that the shooter in this most recent case was confined to an institution, but that state mental health authorities did not forward his name to the NIC system, and therefore he passed the background investigation. Obama and Clinton have already reacted to the latest shooting with their appropriate sound bites. It is noted that Obama both supports an Individual's right to bear arms and supports D.C. Governments handgun ban. Now there's a man who can eloquently speak out of both sides of his mouth.

We will find out once again, the gun laws if properly administered in this case could have prevented a tragedy - given the fact that the ACLU, and mental health professionals are loath to have patient data provided to the federal government.....more of these incidents will occur.

Campus police just can't cope with this. The only solution is concealed carry on Campus.

Let's see if this issue - with this solution - can be framed as a question in upcoming Presidential debates.

Supreme Court Case Gets More Support From Congress

Dick Cheney has joined a majority of Congress in a "friend of the Court" brief to be filed with the Supreme Court....to further support the proposition that the Second Amendment is being violated by the D.C. gun ban.

As it becomes clearer each day that at least politically, D.C.'s gun ban is on the way out...we may not know for several more months how large a victory will be achieved.

While it is likley that an individual's right to own a firearm will be uplheld, the power of government to regulate the sale and possession of firearms may also be sustained.

We can only hope that Dracarion laws, like those in D.C., New York City and Chicago will be undone and a clear message sent to the anti-self-protection crowd.

As for the current moment in Presidential politics....at least John McCain had the good sense to re-afirm his support for the Second Amendment in front of CPAC.

Their will be only one choice for gun owner's in November....and sitting out the election is not one of them.

Guns on Campus

Kentucky is considering a bill to allow guns on Campus...as long as they stay locked in a car.

This is the latest in the growing debate which was spawned by the Virginia Tech killings.

Frankly, I don't see how a gun locked in a car is going to protect the owner when things get bad. Pepper spray would be a better deterrent.

A better approach would allow those with Concealed Carry Permits to carry on campus. CCW folks are already the least likely to mis-use their weapons and most have had at least some certified training.

The liberal establishment that rules most Colleges in this country won't move towards a liberal approach on this issue....until....perhaps....another tragedy occurs. Even if more defenseless students are killed....I don't see anything changing.

Their conventional wisdom is that more crime is being committed with AK-47s.

Of course they are ignorant of the facts. Of course they fail to mention that AK-47s were allowed during the previous ban...just not those with flash suppressors etc.

The Solicitor General has asked the Supreme Court to uphold the position that the Federal Government has the right to regulate the ownership of firearms - this is part of the Governments brief in the D.C. Gun Ban Supreme Court case.

Personally, I never expected the US Government to not assert it's authority to regulate firearms as part of this case. What is more important to most of us....is the prevailing view....that this case should establish....that the right to bear Arms....is an Individual Right.

The New Jersey Legislature is on its way to pass 3 laws that will increase penalties for gun violations and are targeted against illegal purchasers and gang violence.

On the surface these proposals do not seem unreasonable.

So....as gun owners, are we better off resisting all new gun laws.....or as I believe aren't we smarter to support changes that will reduce gun violence but resist those that go beyond addressing reasonable concerns and unfairly limit the freedom of law abiding citizens.

As I write this, a USA Today, un-scientific poll on the WEB reflects that 97% of the approximately 200,000 respondents feel the Second Amendment gives an individual the right to keep and bear arms.

This should be your litmus test for the coming Presidential election.

A candidate that does not pro-actively support this view can't have my support.

That leaves almost all the Democrats out. Hillary Clinton included. She would mouth support while working to undermine my rights....Duplicity is in her blood....as well as her husband's.

Register your opinion....who knows, someone may actually take notice in the vast liberal media to what the average American really feels.

Well the information is now out. A CCW holder saved lives in Colorado and stopped the Church killings.

OK...poor liberals.....How creatively you will argue that this instance of self preservation was just a fluke!

want to make the CHP holder an "authority" figure. (Heaven forbid
that a regular citizen with a gun would save any lives.) The media
did this by emphasizing that she was a "security guard" and saying
that she has a "law enforcement background."

The pastor said in other interviews that she is a CHP holder and
volunteered to guard the church.

The criminal had a gun, smoke grenade, and over 500 rounds of
ammunition on him. He meant business and meant to slaughter as many
people as he could.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The gunman who killed two at a Colorado Springs
church Sunday refused a guard's order to drop his weapon and fired
before the guard shot him to death and ended the attack.

The guard, a member of the New Life Church who provides security as a
volunteer, was called a hero by church officials today.

"She's the hero," Senior Pastor Brady Boyd said. "She saved 100 lives
yesterday."

Michael Ware, pastor of Victory Church in Westminster and a New Life
overseer, said the security guard is a small woman, "110 pounds
dripping wet."

Relating the account he had been told, Ware said the woman ordered
Matthew Murray to drop his weapon and they exchanged shots. The
attacker shot at the guard, missed, and kept walking into the church,
Ware said. The woman fired again, taking down the gunman.

Boyd is meeting today with members of the family who lost two teenage
girls in the shooting.

Stephanie and Rachael Works, 18 and 16, died in the attack. Their
father, David Works, 51, is in fair condition at Penrose hospital in
Colorado Springs with gunshot wounds in his groin area and abdomen.

Boyd said this morning that he believes the New Life Church's high
profile may have attracted the gunman there. Boyd doesn't believe the
attacker knew anyone at the church or singled out the church because
of personal animosity.

"We know (his name) but no one on the staff ever heard of him," Boyd
said Monday, as paused in the foyer where shattered glass and bullet
holes still spoke to the shootout between the woman parishioner — who
worked as a volunteer security guard — and the gunman.

In an exclusive interview after the press conference Boyd told the
Rocky Mountain News that he was calm in the wake of the shootings.

"Right now I'm in survival mode. I don't have time to think of the
scope of this. but I have a sense of calm that God is in control," he
said.

Boyd also seemed to indicate, but didn't elaborate, that violence
follows churches that preach the gospel.

"Any New Testament church is under attack and duress. It's unique to
us as westerners to think that when we come under attack there's
something wrong with the church," which isn't true, he said.

Ware said the Works family used to be members of his church. He said
they were loving, exuberant family who would rush up to him to give
him hugs at church.

"A precious, precious family," Ware said. "If you wanted an example of
a model family you would look to them."

Ware was among many somber-face church leaders converging on New Life
for the second time in a year.

One year ago, the church was engulfed in its first national crisis,
when pastor Ted Haggard resigned from the pulpit after admitting to a
sex scandal.

Overseer Larry Stockstill, who flew in from Louisiana, said he was at
the hospital praying with the Works family when the second Works girl
died.

Stockstill said because of Haggard's high profile the church had put
in a security plan long ago. Ware said that his church, too — as well
as many churches — have plainclothes worshipers who are armed and
ready to step in.

"They worship and watch," Ware said.

Boyd, who was hired to succeed Haggard, is getting high marks from
overseers for the way he's handling his second major crisis in a year.

"He stepped up to that microphone like a president," Ware said,
referring to Boyd's first news conference today on the shooting.

In the interview today, Boyd said he was having lunch with another
overseer, Jack Hayford, when they heard the shots. He did not see the
shooting.

"We didn't know if he (Hayford) was the target or I was," Boyd said.

Boyd's immediate thought was whether his wife and children had left
the church after the service — they had. Next, he thought, "Who's
being hurt in my church?"

As prescribed by the security plan, the two men stayed in the office,
a floor above the shooting.

Authorities say 18-year-old Stephanie Works and 16-year-old
Rachael Works died from their injuries after a gunman opened fire
outside New Life Church on Sunday. Larry Bourbonnais, a combat-tested
Vietnam veteran, said it was the bravest thing he's ever seen.

Bourbonnais, who was among those shot by a gunman Sunday at New
Life Church, watched as a security guard, a woman later identified as
Jeanne Assam, calmly returned fire and killed the shooter.

"She just started walking toward the gunman firing the whole
way," said Bourbonnais, who was shot in the arm. "She was just yelling
'Surrender,' walking and shooting the whole time."

Bourbonnais, 59, had just finished up a hamburger in the
cafeteria on the sprawling church campus when he heard gunfire, he
recalled.

He headed in the direction of the shots as frightened people ran
past him looking to escape to safety.

"Where's the shooter? Where's the shooter?" Bourbonnais kept
yelling, he recalled.

Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman
and an armed male church security guard who was there with his gun
drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his
weapon.

"Give me your handgun. I've been in combat, and I'm going to take
this guy out," Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard. "He kept
yelling, 'Get behind me! Get behind me!' He wouldn't hand me his
weapon, but he wouldn't do anything."

There was an additional armed security guard there, another man,
who also didn't fire, Bourbonnais said.

Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.

"First, I called him 'Coward' then I called him 'S---head' "
Bourbonnais said. "I probably shouldn't have been saying that in
church."

That's when the shooter pointed one of his guns at Bourbonnais
and fired, he said.

Bourbonnais ducked behind a hollow, decorative pillar and was hit
in the arm by a bullet and fragments of the pillar.

At about that moment, Assam, 42, turned a corner with a drawn
handgun, walked toward the gunman and yelled "Surrender!" Bourbonnais
said.

The gunman pointed a handgun at Assam and fired three shots,
Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the
gunman pressing off round after round.

After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked the Assam, a
volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and
focused.

Bourbonnais said she replied:

"I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time."

Security guard who stopped shooter credits God

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- "It seemed like it was me, the
gunman, and God," said Jeanne Assam, describing her feelings as she
confronted a man who charged into her Colorado Springs church Sunday
firing a weapon.

Assam, a church security guard with **law enforcement experience,**
fired her own weapon at the invader and stopped his attack, police say.

Police on Monday identified the gunman as Matthew Murray and said he
was also responsible for an attack earlier Sunday at a missionary
center some 80 miles away.

The two incidents left four people dead, in addition to the gunman,
and five wounded.

Police said forensic evidence showed a positive match between a
handgun found at the church and shell casings found at the missionary
center in Arvada, a suburb of Denver.

Officials from the Colorado Springs and Arvada police departments
appeared at a joint news conference to brief reporters on what they
had pieced together about Sunday's events.

The first incident took place Sunday at about 12:30 a.m. at Youth With
a Mission in Arvada.

Police said a man with a beard, wearing a dark jacket, glasses, and
skullcap, entered the facility, got into a dispute with a staff member
about whether he could stay there for the night, and then opened fire.

Two staff members, Tiffany Johnson, 26, and Philip Crouse, 24, died
later Sunday from their injuries, Youth With a Mission co-founder
Peter Warren said. Two other staff members were injured, and one was
in critical condition.

Investigators tried to track the gunman through fresh snow with the
help of dogs, but lost his trail in a heavily walked area, Deputy
Chief Gary Creager of Arvada police said.

About 12 hours later, police say, Murray showed up at New Life Church
as a service was letting out.

Police said Monday he had an assault rifle and two handguns, and may
have had as many as 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

He fired on a family who were in or near their car. Two sisters,
identified by police as Rachael Works, 16, and Stephanie Works, 18,
were killed, and their father, David Works, 51, was also shot and is
hospitalized in fair condition with two gunshot wounds.

Murray then entered the church, police say, where Assam was one of
several volunteer security guards on duty.

"I saw him coming through the doors," she told reporters on Monday. "I
took cover, and I waited for him to get closer, and I came out of
cover and identified myself, and engaged him, and took him down. And

Police said they were still investigating whether Assam's weapon
killed Murray, or whether he might have died of a self-inflicted
gunshot.

Assam extended her sympathy to the families of the victims "and of the
gunman -- and I mean that very sincerely."

Phil Abeyta, who identified himself as Murray's uncle, appeared at
another news conference and read a statement from the family asking
for forgiveness.

"Our family cannot express the magnitude of our grief for the victims
and families of this tragedy," he said. "On behalf of our family and
our son, we ask for forgiveness. We cannot understand why this has
happened."

Abeyta appeared with spokesmen from the Youth With A Mission center,
who confirmed that Murray had been part of a training program five
years ago.

Peter Warren, director of Youth With A Mission, said Murray did not go
on the mission he was training for in 2002 because managers thought
that "issues relating to his health made it unsafe for him to do so."

But a man who served at the center with Murray told CNN Monday that
Murray was kicked out of the mission program for strange behavior.

A source -- a long-time member of New Life Church -- said Murray had a
falling out with Youth With A Mission after working with the
organization a couple of years ago. The source said Murray sent
antagonistic and threatening correspondence afterward.

Earlier Monday, Boyd said the gunman was unknown to parishioners there.

"He simply showed up on our property yesterday with a gun, with the
intention of hurting people, and he did," Boyd said.

Boyd said the megachurch instituted security precautions after the
shootings at the Denver area mission center.

Boyd said Assam was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to
confront the gunman just inside the church. "She probably saved over a

"I give the credit to God. And I say that very humbly. God was with me
and the whole time I was behind cover -- this has got to be God,
because of the firepower that [the gunman] had vs. what I had," Assam
said.

"I did not run away and I didn't think for a minute to run away, I
just knew that I was given the assignment to end this before it got
too much worse. I just prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide me."

She told reporters she had not slept since the shooting, "as I'm sure
you can tell."

She said she was on the third day of a three-day regimen of fasting
and prayer, wanting to know God's will for what to do with her life,
when the shooting took place.

"I was weak, and where I was weak, God made me strong," she said. "He
filled me and he guided me and protected me and many other people. And
I'm honored that God chose me."

Assam was one of about a dozen volunteer security guards at the
church, half of whom are armed, Boyd said. The guards are licensed,
trained and screened, and are church members, not "mercenaries," he

Colorado Shooting Highlights Churches' New Emphasis on Security

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. —
When a black-clad gunman walked into New Life Church on Sunday and
started shooting, he was met with the church's first line of defense:
a congregant with a ***concealed weapons permit*** and a law
enforcement background.

The woman, ***an armed volunteer***, shot and killed the gunman. New
Life's pastor credited her with saving 100 lives.

Churches want to present an open and welcoming image, but in an era of
mass-casualty shootings and terrorism threats, the violence at New
Life highlights a new emphasis on security. Some of the nation's
estimated 1,200 megachurches — places where more than 2,000
worshippers gather each week — have been quietly beefing up security
in recent years, even using armed guards to protect the faithful.

Meanwhile, many more, often smaller congregations typically don't have
detailed security plans either because they don't have the money or
don't want to risk turning people away.

At Potter's House, a Dallas megachurch led by superstar pastor T.D.
Jakes, a private security company employs a team of armed, unarmed,
uniformed and plainclothes guards that keeps watch over crowds in the
thousands. Under a new Texas law, all nonprofits must use licensed
security guards, and the church hired Classic Security in response,
said Sean Smith, who formerly headed the church's security detail and
now works for the company.

For the past three years, Potter's House has hosted a church security
conference, drawing more than 400 people earlier this year to sessions
on surveillance, background checks and other issues. Although
precautions can be costly, money spent on security can end up being
far less than liability and lawsuit risks if no action is taken, the
church says.

"You see (security) anywhere but churches," Smith said. "You see it in
malls, at banks, at concerts. Somehow, at churches we feel immune to
violence. But it's been proven not to be the case."

Even without a security department, churches can train volunteers to
keep watch for suspicious behavior, like a visitor dressed in a long
coat in summer or not making eye contact with anyone, Smith said.

The security plan at New Life Church may seem extraordinary. The
church's volunteer security force is stocked with people with military
or law enforcement experience, they carry radios and weapons, and
there are evacuation plan calls for hustling worshippers into "secure
zones" in the case of emergencies.

But charismatic New Life, Colorado's largest church with about 10,000
members, is no ordinary church.

Even before the founding pastor, the now-disgraced Ted Haggard, became
a player on the national political stage, the church endured death
threats against him. There were bomb scares and vandalism, including
animal blood being splashed on the walls, said Patton Dodd of Colorado
Springs, a former New Life Church staff member and editor with the Web
site Beliefnet.

"Even back then we had people undercover in the congregation who were
armed," Dodd said. "It was a big church at the time, it was Christian,
and some people really hate that stuff.

"Not only do we have military and ex-military all over, we have this
sort of frontier mentality. People around here are serious about
protecting their own."

Haggard was fired last year after a male prostitute alleged a
relationship with him.

His successor, Brady Boyd, said at a news conference Monday that his
security chief recommended heightened security early Sunday after a
shooting in a Denver suburb at a missionary training center dormitory.
Boyd agreed.

The volunteer security guard hailed as a hero had attended the
church's early worship service at 9 a.m., then stood watch in the
rotunda of the busy church lobby as the second service was letting out.

There, she confronted the gunman, who managed to two slay two sisters
and wound three others before he was killed. One witness told a
television station the guard described praying to the Holy Spirit as
she squeezed off rounds.

Speaking of the church's security plan, Boyd said: "That's the reality
of our world."

On Sept. 15, 1999, a deranged man burst into a Wednesday night teen
prayer rally at Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, killing
four teenagers and three adults.

In the immediate aftermath, there was talk at the church of posting
armed guards at every door. But the pastor, the Rev. Al Meredith, took
a different approach: he didn't change much at all.

The 2,500-member church urges police who attend the church to wear
their uniforms and arranges for squad cars for big events, but those
steps are more to ease the minds of congregants than stop an attack,
Meredith said Monday.

American Jews have long emphasized the need for safeguarding their
community organizations, schools and synagogues. Many groups formed
security committees.

"There have been security concerns generally for many years, but they
have certainly been heightened since 9-11," said Nathan Diament,
public policy director for the Orthodox Union, which represents
Orthodox synagogues in North America.

The Homeland Security Department created a grant program of nearly $50
million to improve security for religious and secular nonprofits
considered at risk of terrorist attack.

Several Jewish groups have received individual grants, according to
the Orthodox Union.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations also distributes a detailed
security checklist, urging groups to build relations with local law
enforcement and elected officials, report suspicious activity and hold
community meetings to raise awareness of potential threats.

The Fellowship of the Woodlands megachurch in Texas employs a former
FBI agent as a full-time security director, overseeing volunteers and
paid staff, said pastor Kerry Shook. Those who are armed in the
congregation are police officers, he said.

"It's something you just have to do today," said Shook, whose
congregation draws 15,600 people per weekend. "We want everyone to
feel safe. At the same time, we want to be open and accepting of
everyone. An incident like this one in Colorado Springs just
reinforces what the church is — we have to be a light in a dark world."

Paranoia runs Deep

Its a current common theme. A young student gets in trouble for writing about, speaking about or even creating a drawing with a gun.

The fear of violence in schools is real and is justified, but it's gone to far, when children can't play with toy guns, can't freely discuss their or their parent's hobbies, and parents have to worry about little Johnny telling his friends how he and daddy had fun and the local range.

This political correctness movement is stopping our children from expressing their feelings, thoughts, interests in firearms. This is counter-productive, leading to an unwarranted fear of everything that goes "bang", and demonizes millions of Americans who own, use and love firearms.

So what is the answer?

Parents, educators, gun owners, and all those interested in a balanced approach to school violence must make sure that educators don't confuse an affinity to firearms, hunting, target shooting as a logical precursor to violence.

Given, educators liberal bent, this balance will be hard to secure. But vigilance to deter violence should not become an excuse to restrict free speech or expression - where the mere picture of a gun evokes paranoia and a repressive response.

Will the Supreme Court Rule

Washington, DC....one of the most dangerous places on earth, is now asking the Supreme Court to support its position that citizens do not have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

Mr. Fenty, DC's current champion of freedom and justice for all, hopes the Supremes will reverse the Federal Appeals Court ruling that cites DC's draconian gun laws as unconstitutional.

I thought his honor would demur to Democratic politicians who did not want this issue coming before the court and especially not during a Presidential campaign.

Now Ms. Hillary and company will have to answer the question....Do you solemnly swear to defend and support the constitution of the United States, so help you God....including the Second Amendment....that provides for the right of the people.......not the militia.....to keep and bear arms.

This embarrassing question will be posed to those freedom loving liberals who will then hem and haw, which most of the electorate will see as evidence of weakness....at least those inclined to care about their Second Amendment rights.

Excellent chance that the Court will take the case and rule before November 2008. Excellent chance that it will affirm the Individual right to keep and bear arms.

Media Focus on the AK

The Associated Press points to the AK and its inventor, with a clear implication that somehow the AK's creator should be oozing with guilt over the results of his great invention.

So, once again the media takes the position that a weapon designed to defend Russia against its enemies is somehow inherently evil.

This fits the anti weapon bias of the press, who can't even see the reality of an armed force organized and equiped to effectively defend a nation.

The AP would prefer a guilt ridden Mikhail Kalashnikov, a guilt ridden John Browning, Eugene Stoner etc...individuals whose inventions have saved countless lives.

The paradox of our reality is something our media just can't accept.

Weapons intended to defend and save lives can and are used offensively and without merit. This is the nature of man and not the nature of the weapon. The weapon does nothing by itself.

But we don't really expect the media to tell that point of view.

Last March, the Roanoke Times decided to "out" thousands of CCW holders in Virginia. Now the same tactic has been used by an Ohio newspaper.

The Roanoke Times ceased its actions after a huge outcry, but so far the small minded newspaper editor involved in the Ohio incident is still defending their actions.

This type of attack on gun owners will continue until state laws are enacted making such release of sensitive information illegal.

So if you live in Ohio, start contacting your state legislators.

K-31 Made Like a Swiss Watch

I took my old K-31 Schmidt-Rubin out to the range just for some fun the other day. This surplus straight pull bolt action keeps surprising me with its quality and accuracy.

Shooting from the bench at 100 yards, my hand loaded ammo worked well, and produced outstanding results for a military rifle that costs around $100 on today's surplus market.
This particular K-31 has all matching serial numbers, and even had the Swiss Reservist's name and address on a small piece of paper behind the butt plate.

The ammo is almost equivalent to a 30-06. But availability is an issue...so most K-31 owners load their own. The brass is available and of course 7.62 bullets come in all varieties. I use 165gr Remington soft points.

So if you are looking for a gun that was made in the 1950's with the quality of a Swiss watch, and for a good price, then look no further. Grab a K-31 while they are still available.

Handgun Limits

Well, New Jersey is considering joining the ranks of 3 other states which limit handgun purchases to one per month.

So what's so bad about this?

Having lived with these restrictions for some time, I personally see no issues.

Buying one gun per month gives most folks the ability to defend themselves from most anything.

The reason for the limit - it may reduce straw purchase activity for illegal buyers (i.e., gangs etc.)

Is there any proof that this restriction is saving lives? I don't think so. But as far as handgun restrictions go, this one looks worse than it actually is.

Many argue that once in place the limits will change to "one handgun a year" or "one handgun every 10 years". Don't think we need to really worry about that.

And why not worry?

Because it politics. And most everyone knows that you can only push gun control so far before it becomes a political liability (Democrats know this).

When gun control running amok, is no longer a political time bomb....then worry...worry a lot.

Illinois - A State of Mind

I now have a better understanding of why CCW isn't happening in the state of Illinois.

Seems like Chicago liberals have a stranglehold on all Second Amendment issues.

So why have the good law abiding citizens of this state put up with this for so long.

Mosin Around

Surplus rifles are sometimes surprising, in terms of history and accuracy.

The Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 is such a rifle.

Millions were made by Russia in WWII and they helped save the USSR from the Nazis.

No one will claim that this weapon is superior to a Mauser design. But it's very functional and exhibits decent accuracy.

I recently took my Mosin to the range shooting at 100 yds with cheap Wolf ammo.
This 5.5 inch black circle ended up with 9 shot within 3.5 inches. Not bad for a gun made in 1944, using standard Russian ammo. All shots were from a sandbag rest with iron sights.

You can get these guns cheap. Mine cost $69 with all matching serial numbers.

These guns are fun to shoot, inexpensive to own, and can be scoped for hunting.

Registration Mania in California

Seems, Calif. Pols think people need to be checked out when buying ammo and a detailed records need to be kept. For what purpose? Obviously no real practical reason, other than to make politicians feel good that somehow this will reduce crime?

I think its time to start a national registry of flaky people, those with superficial thoughts and behaviors, those that distort the national culture, those that inhibit clear thinking and overall civil behavior. I think we can start this registry in California and maybe it will save some lives.

Penn. Gun Law Proposal

The most extreme thing that is likely to become law is the one gun a month rule for handguns.

This is the law if VA, except for CCW holders. It has not been a problem. Being limited to 12 handgun purchases a year is not an issue for most of us.

In a recent survey a small minority(5%) of Muslims living in America expressed support for Al-Qaida while 13 percent saw justification is suicide bombings.

When the population being surveyed is in excess of 2 million, even a small number of potential supporters of terrorist tactics is worrisome.

Open Carry

It is generally rare that open carry becomes a controversial issue, mainly because most gun owners living in locations that allow open carry, just don't do it.

In Idaho, a couple of teenagers are exercising their right and getting noticed.

This is a non-issue for most gun owners. And personally, as long as the ability to carry concealed is granted in a given state, the issue of open carry just doesn't excite me.

I understand why some feel its important to exercise the right to retain it. Those who have CCW permits have options for self protection that most often negates the issue of open carry.

Yes, we all know CCW is not allowed in certain places. Most CCW holders have no problem abiding by the rules knowing that something can always happen when their in a restricted zone.

Open carry is rarely exercised. The right to open carry will remain until someone can establish that it does more harm than good. So hats off to the two young teenagers who are setting an example in their community on how to open carry in a respectful manner.

Does Anyone Have a Stamp?

How about this for a new way to catch criminals. Lets micro stamp each cartridge fired with the gun type, serial number etc.

When the bad guys leave spent cases behind, now LEOs can easily find them?

This is getting traction and may become law.

So what's wrong with the idea.

1. It will added modest costs to each new semi-auto sold
2. Criminals will not hesitate to use some abrasive to mark up the bolt face and destroy the ability to micro stamp the case.

Some bad folks may actually get caught because of this new tool.....especially those who firing the gun without pre-mediation.

Is this foolish legislation ?

Maybe if it can actually help LEOs, and its not obtrusive technology, well maybe its a good idea?

Gun Giveaway Politics

Governor Kaine of Virginia wants to have it both ways. How typical of a politician when it comes to guns - and of Democrats.

Kaine just signed a law making it a felony to "sting" an FFL in VA without VA permission and VA/Federal LEO involvement.

Now, as reported in the Washington Post, he just doesn't understand why the VCDL is conducting a gun giveaway in a Fairfax County building.

Of course he knows why its being done.

The giveaway supports the intent of the legislation he just signed
It supports FFL holders in VA
It sends a message to the Bloombergs of America
It sends a message to the government of Virginia - Citizens will support their rights
It is perfectly legal and ethical

As this surprisingly balanced article points out local government officials have no problem when government buildings are used for left leaning agenda's and anti-gun meetings by anti-gun non profits. Pro gun groups have the same right to assemble and conduct raffles etc.

This is democracy at work - the only reason the Dems in VA are upset is that the VCDL is playing it smart and this really makes the locals politicians nervous.

Rudy G said the other day, that the Constitution gives individuals the right to keep and bear arms. Now I am not convinced that the former Mayor of New York who aggressively enforced the city's draconian Sullivan law can be trusted on this one. But I want every candidate to affirm their position on the Second Amendment. Any candidate that waffles on this, that does not unequivocally state that the Constitution does guarantee an individual right to keep and bear arms, need not worry about being elected, because they will have killed their chances.

Now the Democrats can get away with nominating someone not on the right side of the Second Amendment. But if nominated they will lose. Frankly, we can only hope for such a candidate.

Any Republican hoping to capture the nomination must pass muster on this point.

But....once candidates get past this Second Amendment test, they will have to also convince me that.

they will not support an assault weapons ban
they will not limit magazine capacity
they will support CCW and the privacy of CCW holders

Bloomberg's Wake

The Washington Post recent reports on Virginia's response to Mayor Bloomberg's guerrilla war, now includes criticism of a planned gun giveaway sponsored by the Virginian Civilian Defense League. In its Sunday edition, it describes Fairfax County government official's discomfort with the VCDL meeting, since citizens may attend and be legally armed.

The Washington Post does a poor job of trying to present an issue objectively. It continues to push its pacifist agenda by portraying citizens who are willing to defend themselves and others, as some kind of fringe element that society is embarrassed by.

Surprisingly, both these WP articles were written by the same reporter. Yet the latest one fails to even mention the bill that Governor Kaine just signed making Bloomberg's sting operation a felony.

It's Gun Magazine Time

Well, after the VT killings, it's not surprising that various politicians at various levels want to push for some token gun control measures. So in Illinois its time to attack the magazine capacity issue and limit it again to 10 rounds.

This useless concept has no real impact on crime or even the VT killer's circumstances.

As many gun owners know, you can change a magazine in under 1 second no matter what the capacity - but it makes politicos feel good to offer up tokens.

Anyway more of this stuff will just drive up the current price of clips. I recently bought a few more hi caps...because you never know....and it might be a good investment too.

Is the Paker Decision going to the Supremes?

The D istrict of Columbia has lost its request that the Parker decision be reviewed by the Appeals Court that affirmed that the Second Amendment provides for an Individuals right to keep and bear arms.

Now D.C. has 90 days to request the case be heard by the Supreme Court.

D.C. can request the High court's support but are the stakes too high? Might D.C. decide in deference to Hillary Clinton, not to allow the issue to go to the High court when it might well become a 2008 presidential campaign issue, and look badly for the Democrats.

If the case is pending with the High Court, Hillary will be asked to make a stand on the issue. This could be very hard for the Democrats who would end up alienating their left or moderates if they take the wrong position. Hillary would not be able to dodge the issue. Surely Obama etc. would take the stand that the 2nd Amendment is a Collective right.

So, Mayor Fenty will be under pressure to not take the case forward. Instead he is likely to try to regulate around the issue by imposing some liberalization of D.C. gun laws that would keep most guns out of the hands of citizens who want them while letting some guns flow to those who would have to pass rigid criteria.

The criteria might include need, training, and specify the type of weapons allowed.

Even if such rules are adopted, they will likely face legal challenges, but through regulation, D.C. can still make it unlikely that the average law abiding citizen can have a gun in their home. D.C. can do this an avoid an embarrassing political issue for the Democrats and a likely worse outcome assuming the High Court would sustain the Parker Decision.

The Future for American Gun Owners

The following is a e-mail from a VA resident sent to a VA Newspaper. It reflects a perspective that may hold sway in your future.

Do you want to live in an America where you feel you
have to provide a handgun to your sons or daughters
for them to be safe in college or high school
classrooms? Would you want to carry a firearm every
time you go to the grocery store, to the shopping
mall, to church or to any public place? If not
everywhere you go, how will you know when the armed
madman or criminal might appear?

Would you and your family be willing to practice
handling and shooting a gun so that you might have
some realistic chance of defending yourself against an
armed criminal? Will you need a 9 mm handgun with a
15-round clip so you won't be outgunned by an armed
criminal? Will you need a bulletproof vest, or
armor-piercing bullets in case the criminal is wearing
a vest?

Or would you feel content to rely on gun enthusiasts
like those who write to this newspaper, hoping that
they will be there and that they will be as good with
a gun as they think they are?

If the opportunity to carry firearms in public places
is such a valuable right, why aren't more of us
actually doing it?

The tragedy at Virginia Tech is so sad and personal
that it feels wrong to talk about anything other than
the overwhelming fact that people lost their lives.
But perhaps it is more wrong now not to talk about
guns in America.

I believe the answer is fewer guns, not more guns. The
idea of an armed citizenry may have made some sense in
Colonial times. Today, it is madness.

I also believe that America is on an irreversible path
to stricter gun control similar to the paths that
every other civilized nation has followed. Demographic
changes and advances in technology are altering rural
lifestyles. The mere passage of time distances us from
the overly romanticized, Wild West attitudes that
produce these self-professed rugged individualists who
believe in self-help by gun, instead of relying on our
trained police forces as the rest of us, collectively,
democratically, have chosen.

Effective gun control will be extreme gun control, and
it may very well require the repeal of the Second
Amendment and the reconstitution of the current
Supreme Court. If it is to happen sooner rather than
later, it will require that wives and mothers and
young people have the strength of will and conviction
to oppose and stand up to those mostly old men who are
not going to change their minds about guns.

It won't happen in my lifetime, probably not in my
children's lifetimes. But it will happen, and America
will be a better place when it does.

If this viewpoint is as upsetting to you as it is to me, then now is the time to get involved.
If you don't want an America where gun ownership is considered evil then you must be willing to get actively involved to:

Defeat any candidate for political office that does not in word and deed support an Individual's right to keep and bear arms - no matter what else you agree with them on, if they don't support this, you must work against them.
Educate your friends, neighbors, children, grand children etc., about the enjoyment of the shooting sports and the responsible use of firearms as well as the reality that firearms are a valid means of self-defense - the right to keep and bear arms is an outgrowth of every one's natural right to self-defense.
Support gun rights organization by joining the NRA, SAF or local organization.
Be an advocate by word and deed for the responsible use of firearms. Don't foster the negative by doing stupid things with a gun.

On the surface it seems like a reasonable approach. But can and will this authority be abused.

The NRA has raised some valid issues. The legislation should be fully vetted and amended to ensure some form of review, due process etc., considering the real chance that you could end up on this list through no fault of your own.

I can easily see future circumstances where the misuse of this provision will cost some lives.

Virginia Gun Control Change Problematic

The Executive Order signed by Governor Kaine may hold some problems that will need fixing, VCDL alert indicates that:

Earlier today, Governor Kaine signed an Executive Order (EO) prohibiting another category of people from owning firearms. Kaine's EO would take away gun rights for life of any person adjudicated dangerous, but only ordered to be treated as an OUTPATIENT. (Anyone who is committed as an inpatient currently loses their gun rights
already.)

So, what's the problem?

1. Kaine's action is probably unconstitutional! If Kaine can just issue an Imperial Decree changing existing law without any debate from our elected representatives, why not just disband the General Assembly, if they aren't needed any more? :-(

The proper way to handle a situation like this is for the Governor to call a special session of the General Assembly to address this issue and ask the the General Assembly to modify the law.

2. His EO may appear to be a reasonable restriction because no one wants a violent, insane person to have a gun or any other weapon for that matter.

However, what judge in HIS right mind would allow a person who the judge KNOWS to be a danger to himself or to others to be sent home and allowed to do outpatient treatment?!? The judge should commit himself to inpatient treatment for doing such a thing! That's like sending serial murderer Jeffrey Dahmer back home but requiring him to attend weekly counseling sessions!

If a person is adjudicated dangerous to himself or others, he should be confined, NOT sent home!

So you might ask, why would there be ANY patients who were both dangerous AND ordered to do outpatient treatments?

Because the judge might believe that the person isn't really 'dangerous,' but the judge feels that the person does desperately need mental help and that the person wouldn't seek such help on his own. So the judge declares the person to be 'dangerous' so that the person can be forced to take the outpatient treatment.

Should a person who is not believed to be dangerous by a judge be banned from having guns for the rest of his life?

3. The Governor's edict is retroactive! Thus, if you were treated as an outpatient under a court order thirty years ago and have been fine ever since, you can now no longer BUY, OWN, or POSSESS any firearms.
If you do you can be charged with a federal FELONY!

4. The Governor has falsely promised that gun rights could be restored. NOT true. There is no way to get your name off the federal list once Virginia has added you to it, even if you are now perfectly normal. You will be prohibited by federal law from buying or possessing a firearm for the rest of your life. And you may not even realize you are a 'prohibited' person, so when you attempt to purchase a firearm, you may be shocked when you are arrested for lying on the 4473, which is a FELONY.

5. Once you are on the federal mental defect list, you could lose more than your gun rights. Your security clearance could be at risk.
Your job too.

6. According to the Washington Post, Attorney General McDonnell said, "We are still in a state of mourning, but now is the time for action." What he's really saying is that he's got to do something, anything, to make it look like the government is doing something.
Just another "feel good" measure - and one embraced by Governor Kaine!

And talk about rushing to do something - Kaine JUST APPOINTED a commission to look at the mental health problem and make suggestions, but Kaine didn't even wait for the commission to meet! He just charged forward on his political hobbyhorse!

So how did we get into this situation?

Simple - the Court system failed us by not committing the VT murderer to involuntary treatment. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Governor comes along with a knee-jerk solution and compounds the problem by throwing out a huge net to catch such a very rare person. That huge net brings in all kinds of unintended consequences. And it still won't guarantee more government failures that could lead to more murders and mayhem down the road.

Lest you think I am exaggerating the negative impact that the Governor's actions will have on those who need help, want help, and are willing to seek help, I will share with you an email I just received from one of our brave Armed Forces members.

I have left off the person's name for obvious reasons:

"I came back [from my tour of duty] last fall. I'm very worried that getting advice, counseling, or treatment could have ramifications on my ability to carry, own, and use firearms. I've been diagnosed with "mild PTSD" [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] and am very anxious that treatment it is going to put me on some list. I believe I can handle the PTSD, if necessary, but it'd be a whole lot easier if there weren't that Sword of Damocles hanging over my head.

As it is, I'm treating myself based on information from public sources."

I'll be honest - that email tore me up. Just watching the news and seeing what those men and women go through in protecting this county is enough to give ME mild PTSD! I can't even imagine being at war and living through all that our fighting men and women live through.
Yet we put them in a position of being afraid to seek a helping hand in adjusting back to normal, peacetime life!

Is this what those who are suffering from emotional stress and trauma, or have common things like depression, get to look forward to? The additional worry of becoming a second-class citizen, disarmed by their own government for seeking help?

And what about employment? Those in a position to lose their guns unfairly will now also be in a position to lose their security clearances unfairly, too.

For now, VCDL needs to investigate the whole situation and its implications in more detail. I have been talking to the Attorney General's Office, as well as to the aides of House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith and Delegate John Welch.

Things like a temporary injunction come to mind, so that the law can be changed carefully and not in a knee jerk reaction. Letting the General Assembly change the law, if it needs changing at all, in a constitutional way is a necessity, too. ;-)

This alert for now is just a 'heads up.' The implications of what is happening could have grave consequences for a lot of innocent people and we are going to be monitoring the situation carefully.

Virginia's Governor has "fixed" the reporting issue that prevented his state from sending the name of the VT killer to the NCIS database. His executive order only effects involuntary confinements to a mental institution.

Sounds like his next move is too work on the "gun show" loophole.

Unfortunately, mentally unstable folks can still buy guns at garage sales, from neighbors, from illegal sources etc. Well maybe the current move by VA would have stopped the VT Killer. It's a reasonable response to an insane act.
